Privacy Policy
This Privacy Policy explains what information PiccTools (“we”, “our”, the “Site”, picctools.com) collects, what we deliberately do not collect, and how third-party services on the Site may use data. The short version: your images are processed entirely on your own device and are never uploaded to us or anyone else.
1. Image processing: no uploads, ever
Every tool on PiccTools (compressor, converter, resizer, cropper, rotator, EXIF tool, Base64 encoder, palette extractor) performs its work inside your browser using client-side web technologies (the HTML Canvas API, FileReader and related interfaces). When you “drop” an image into a tool, it is read directly from your device into browser memory. It is not transmitted over the network, not stored on our servers, and not accessible to us in any way. Closing or refreshing the page discards it. You can verify this yourself by loading the Site, disabling your internet connection, and confirming that every tool continues to function.
2. Information we collect
Because the Site is static and has no accounts, contact database or comment system, we collect very little directly:
- Contact emails. If you email us, we receive your email address and message contents, used solely to respond to you. We do not add you to any mailing list.
- Local storage on your device. The Site stores a single preference (your light/dark theme choice) in your browser's localStorage. This value never leaves your device.
3. Cookies and third-party advertising
The Site itself does not set tracking cookies. However, we may display advertising served by third-party vendors, including Google AdSense. When ads are shown:
- Third-party vendors, including Google, use cookies to serve ads based on your prior visits to this and other websites.
- Google's use of advertising cookies (including the DART cookie, where applicable) enables it and its partners to serve ads to you based on your visit to this Site and/or other sites on the internet.
- You may opt out of personalized advertising by visiting Google Ads Settings. You can also opt out of many third-party vendors' cookies at aboutads.info/choices.
These third-party ad servers or ad networks use technologies such as cookies, JavaScript or web beacons in their advertisements and links. They automatically receive your IP address when this occurs. These technologies are used to measure the effectiveness of advertising campaigns and/or to personalize the advertising content you see. PiccTools has no access to or control over cookies used by third-party advertisers.
4. Analytics
The Site does not currently include an analytics service. If we add one in the future (for example, privacy-respecting aggregate statistics), this section will be updated before it goes live, and it will never receive your images or file contents.
5. Log files and hosting
Like virtually all websites, our hosting provider may record standard technical log entries when pages are served: IP address, browser type, referring page, and timestamps. These logs are used for security and operational purposes and are not combined with any personal profile.
6. Children's privacy
The Site is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children. Because we collect almost nothing at all, this is straightforward in practice.
7. Your rights
Depending on your jurisdiction (including the GDPR in the EEA/UK and the CCPA/CPRA in California), you may have rights to access, correct, delete or restrict processing of your personal data. Since the only personal data we typically hold is correspondence you sent us, exercising these rights is usually as simple as emailing us a request, which we will honor promptly. You also have the right to lodge a complaint with your local data protection authority.
8. Changes to this policy
If we change this Privacy Policy, we will post the updated version on this page with a new “last updated” date. Material changes will be called out clearly at the top of the page.
